The Department
of Neurology at the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Medical College,Kolenchery has long been known for
excellence in patient management. Along
with other Clinical Departments such as Neurosurgery and Neuroradiology, the Department
of Neurology constitutes the core component of Kolenchery Institute of Neurological
Disorders [KIND].

We conduct
general neurology clinics on all days except Sundays where common neurological
problems such as headache, stroke syndromes, epilepsy, movement disorders,
peripheral neuromuscular disorders and dementia are addressed. These clinics are
one of the busiest super speciality OPDs of our hospital where 100 to 120
patients seek care. Acute neurological illnesses such as acute ischemic stroke,
status epilepticus, meningoencephalitis, ataxic and vertiginous syndromes, thunder
clap headaches, acute areflexic paralysis, movement disorder emergencies and
neuromuscular emergencies such as myasthenic crisis are admitted through the Emergency
Department. Pediatric Neurology clinics are conducted on all Tuesdays. We
receive commendable co-operation from our Neurosurgery colleagues. Teaching programs
are designed for Postgraduate students of Medicine and Pediatrics who are
recruited from time to time. We are in
the process of starting DM Neurology/DNB Neurology courses.
We are fortunate
to have dedicated junior residents from 2007 who never hesitated to work often attending
to calls 24 x 7 and such a culture has been inculcated since then. We would like to mention the names of Dr.
Lipsy Paul, Dr. Anu Mathew, Dr.Susan Johny, Dr.Binu V.P, Dr. Anjana K.E,
Dr.Arun Ajay, Dr. Ravi Raj, Dr. Shijo Joseph, Dr. Ansar Muhammed, Dr. Rahul Tubachi, Dr.Ajith
Paul and Dr. Sanoj Jacob at this juncture. Our past consultants who contributed
significantly to the growth of the Department include Dr. Ashok Kumar Jaideep, Dr.
John K John, Dr. Vivek Mathew and Dr. Joseph Sebastian. We receive tremendous
help from our Physician Assistants who are trained nurses. [Bineesh, Jeesa and Geordin]
and Neurotechnicians [Shamla and Liji].

- We have a state of the art modern ICU with well trained staff and adequate invasive and non invasive mechanical ventilator facilities.
